About

Claire in The Big AppleI’m freelance writer who was first published at the age of eleven. The older I got the less I had to say. About four years ago, a pen dropped in my lap, and I heard the music from “Ilso Sprach Zarathustra” (you know, the droning overture from 2001: A Space Odyssey). Since then, I’ve discovered there’s a lot to write about. I’ve been dividing my time between writing, running a jewelry studio and renovating a 115 year old Victorian home in Montana.

I’ve been published and recorded by The Great Falls Tribune, InStore magazine, Signature Montana, and National Public Radio’s WHYY. Gems & Gemology magazine will run a short article I wrote this fall, and I have ‘feelers’ out for more freelance opportunities. I worked with Marc Rosenwasser of CBS Evening News on an op/ed piece, and I’ve got two very polite, flattering rejections from The New Yorker.

I figured I’d spit on the bat and swing for the majors. Two wuffs so far.

Instead of asking editors to read through stacks of published work, I’m launching wEdge, an eclectic, edgy news, entertainment and lifestyle blog. It’s a place where readers and editors can get an idea of my voice.

I graduated from Great Falls High School, attended the University of Montana, and graduated from the University of Great Falls, summa cum laude in the 1980’s.

I founded Big Sky Gold & Diamond Brokers in 1993. A few years later, my husband, a former attorney, joined me to help operate the largest legitimate diamond wholesale business in Montana. I also work in a chic by-appointment showroom and precious metals clearinghouse.

My husband and I are the proud parents of two grown children, Samantha and Asa.
